MusicScout.tv

One of the better new music websites I’ve been to in awhile is MusicScout.tv. You can get free music downloads, view their music TV channel, and check out independent artists. Based out of San Diego, the creator of Music Scout has a vision to make it an alternative for turning on your TV set to get your Indy music fix.
It’s not like the TV plays music videos anymore, much less Indy stuff, so I think it’s a brilliant idea…
Advantages?
- It’s free.
- It’s high quality video and audio.
- Subscribe to the Music Scout channel on iTunes, and download video podcasts to your iPod or computer as the become available.
- Find some new talent your friends probably never heard of.
Disadvantages?
- None, add it to your favorites.
- Wait, there’s one. Most of the music at this point is from SoCal only. This is because the creator professionally tapes and edits every episode himself, free of cost for the artist–and free of cost for you. So as the channel grows, the diversity will grow. The brotha isn’t Donald Trump! Not yet anyways…
All of the artists are unsigned, and performing live with professional setup. My good friend Kyle Phelan was just taped, you can view his first two episodes at the Belly-Up Tavern (on the homepage as of now). I am a San Diego resident and saw some bands that I’ve always heard of, but never had the chance to see. This kicks ass because now I can see if I’d dig the bands’ stuff before I pay to go to a show, or get their CD.
One of my pet peeves is when a band sounds great on CD but sucks live, so this is a pretty cool way to check it first.
Check it out and comment on your thoughts!
